At Sasaki, we’re passionate about living a healthy, relaxed and productive lifestyle. While ‘relaxed’ and ‘productive’ may sound like they don’t belong in the same sentence together, we’re firm believers that relaxing the mind and body makes you work better. And the science says so, too!
Read on for our tips on how relaxation is your key to a productive 2019, and some of our health products that can help you.
We're all guilty of getting too little sleep occasionally, of leaving work late because we're catching up on emails, or eating lunch at the desk instead of getting away from our screens. All these things collectively drain our energy, and when that happens, we're less productive.
We overwork ourselves to get ‘ahead’ or get ‘more’ done, but this is counterproductive because it ends up being careless work. Just as your body sleeps in 90-minute cycles, the same cycle applies in your waking life as well. Every 90 minutes or so, your brain tells you to take a break. When you instead opt for another coffee, sugar, or you tap into your energy reserves, your performance declines.
Taking proper breaks throughout your working day, and ensuring you are well fed and rested, will ensure that you work more efficiently. It also means you won’t be constantly worn out and under stress – another factor which is terrible for productivity. A 2012 study by the University of California found that when people are highly stressed, they are less likely to make well-balanced decisions. In fact, they are more inclined to view only the advantageous points and neglect to factor in any of the downsides to that decision.
‘Sometimes, the most productive thing you can do is relax’ – Mark Black
So, while ‘relaxing’ may seem counter-intuitive to working efficiently, it’s often the most productive thing you can do. You’ll also find that you will get a greater sense of job satisfaction from the improvement in the quality of your work.
The quality and amount of sleep you get is one of the most influential factors to your productivity. Insufficient sleep takes a huge toll on your performance. In a study of nearly 400 employees, published in 2012, researchers found that sleeping too little (less than six hours each night) was one of the best predictors of on-the-job burn-out. A Harvard study even estimated that sleep deprivation costs American companies $63.2 billion a year in lost productivity.
Getting enough sleep and sleeping on a good mattress to ensure a deep and comfortable sleep, are key to giving your body the perfect conditions to repair and re-energise.
Often, people are deterred by the seemingly high price tag of health products relating to relaxation and wellbeing, which are additionally seen as a ‘luxury’ or ‘treat’. But here at Sasaki, we put immense time, effort, knowledge and technology into creating products that truly work. Given that the traditional techniques coupled with the advanced technology featured in our health products can aid in a multitude of ways from pain relief, improved circulation and memory, weight loss, productivity, and generally helping you live longer – you can’t really put a price on that.
In a 2011 poll, the National Sleep Foundation found that 92% of people said that a comfortable mattress is important to a good night’s sleep.
